Flying Fifteen Inland Championships – this Saturday and Sunday

There will be no club racing this weekend but general sailing will go ahead unless conditions prevent it. The forecast is good at the moment. Good luck to all the competitors.

Sailing Report – Helen Martin, Vice Commodore

Last weekend again saw lots of activity at the club. On Saturday members of the committees were delighted to welcome new members and chat to them over lunch, thank you to everyone involved – if we didn’t answer all your questions please keep asking! The growing RS200 fleet entertained us, sailing on their training day in a pretty demanding and chilly breeze (thanks to Nick Martindale for coaching). The schools were out in force; several of the police group members completed the RYA level 1 and 2 course and CLADS had a boat washing and prep day- we look forward to seeing you on the water.

The wind on Sunday was disappointing and frustrating for Chew Crew and the Class Race Day. RO John Rogers’ carefully planned schedule for multiple races couldn’t be followed. The Flying Fifteen fleet were out in force, getting some final race practice in for their Inland Championships that we host this coming weekend. Andy Southall provided the other racers with a reminder of how to capsize your laser in benign conditions.

Despite the lack of wind some new friendships were made as 6 enthusiastic new Chew Crew members started their RYA 1 and 2 courses, and 9 joined in the Intermediate group with some topper sailing. If you or your children are aged 8 or over and interested to know more about Chew Crew then please see the Chew Crew page on our website.

50th Anniversary Party with Beatles Tribute Band – Saturday 1st July –
Grand Finale of the Family Regatta Day, 5:30pm onwards

Tickets now available for THE summer event of our 50th anniversary year. Enjoy the activities of the day – sailing round the island, hunting for treasure then celebrate our 50 years from 1967, the year of Sergeant Pepper – dress in style, sing and dance along.

The first music set will start at 6pm, with two further sets through the evening. Food will be served between 5.30pm and 7.30pm – delicious slow roast pulled pork rolls, salads, and strawberries and cream.

Tickets are £15 for adults and £10 for children under 16, and can be purchased via Web Collect, or at the club. If buying online, please bring your E ticket on the evening and this will be exchanged for a food ticket.

First Music/Open Mic Night – Friday 26th May – 7:30pm – Andy Bones – Flying Fifteen fleet captain

Thanks to all of you who responded so favourably to this idea. I would like to propose Friday May 26th at 7:30pm for our first get together. We will keep it really loose but please bring along your instruments etc. (percussion and singers very welcome!) we can see what we have to work with. I hope a few of us will “perform”. Plus it will just be a nice social. If anyone has a favourite tune they would like us to be thinking about playing then please let me know and I will update you next week. All genres are most welcome!
