Sailing Suspended 14-Jun-24 with immediate effect – Blue Green Algae

Regretfully I am writing to advise members that all water borne activity on the lake has been suspended with immediate effect due to high levels of Blue Green algae.

Bristol water have consequently notified us that all fishing and sailing activity on the lake is suspended until further notice.

What this means:

  • There will be no sailing this Saturday or Sunday. No boats, RIBs or other craft can be launched on the water until further notice
  • The club grounds remain open for members to access their boats to carry out maintenance etc. However members should keep clear of the water
  • The duty teams have been stood down for this weekend.
  • The above will remain the case until advised otherwise

Ben and Antonia will be at the club on Saturday and Sunday providing a catering service as normal. Obviously this would normally be a busy period and I would encourage all members to show your support for their efforts and come and enjoy a lunchtime meal or snack at the club as you would normally.

Bristol Water monitor the water levels regularly and obviously we all hope that levels will return to an acceptable threshold in the near future and we can return to the water. I will be in touch with them regularly to understand the position and will update you as soon as any further information becomes available.

Open Events

Chew Valley Lake Sailing Club is situated just south of Bristol and is an ideal venue for open meetings and other sailing events.

The sailing area is large enough to set Olympic style courses from either a shore or committee boat start  and large inflatable marks are used to avoid navigational confusion.

Ashore there are large changing rooms with shower facilities and a well equipped Clubhouse with balcony views of the whole lake. There is a comfortable bar and professional catering on site.
