A new season – a new structure..

Welcome to Chew Valley Sailing Club Limited

As all of you who have recently renewed your membership will know, you are now members of Chew Valley Lake Sailing Club Limited, a company limited by guarantee. To get here has taken 18 months of hard work after the idea was first adopted at the 2015 AGM.

The new structure provides better protection for members, a more structured and established framework for our governance and a more efficient basis for engaging with our landlords, suppliers and other third parties.

There have been a number of steps in the process of transition which have included:

  • rewriting the club rules (as adopted at the 2016 AGM)
  • preparing Articles of Association for the new club
  • obtaining tax clearances from HMRC
  • completing a transfer agreement to transfer all of the assets of the old club to the new company

We have managed to complete all of this work with voluntary input from club members and we are most grateful to Keith Harris, Sandie Andrews and, particularly, Nick Graves for the huge time and effort they have put into this process. I am sure you will join me in thanking them. Also due a huge vote of thanks are our outgoing Trustees, Brian Brooks, Dave Macklin and David Casley who were committed custodians of the club for so many years.

The club will continue to be run for the benefit of the members and the day to day operations will remain the responsibility of the elected General Committee. For ‘corporate’ matters a board of directors comprising the flag officers, President and Vice President is in place and will be subject to re-election at the next AGM.

So as we go into our 50th anniversary year, the club is well prepared for the next 50 years with a new structure, new logo and fresh confidence and enthusiasm.
