Working Party – Saturday 15th July

We need help to keep the club tidy and present the grounds in the best possible light to members, visitors and potential new members alike AND to move forward with the CHILDREN’S PLAY AREA. It is fun, useful and very sociable!

Please come along at 11:00 on Saturday 15th for a few hours of work, pulling weeds on the upper dinghy park and moving the pile of old bark chippings from the play area. It would be handy if you could bring with you ROBUST gardening gloves to pull out weeds, secateurs, loppers, shovels and wheelbarrows..

Please report to Toby Peacock and Caroline Bullen on the day.

Thursday Sailing & Fun Races – 27th July

The Police group members are providing safety cover from 14:00 and then for novice racers two short races at 18:00.

Taking Your Boat Away This Summer?

Advice from the dinghy park managers; if you take your boats away for a week or so, it is requested that you mark your space with your name and membership number. This is to discourage other members assuming it is a spare space! (AND don’t forget it is your responsibility to keep your space clear of weeds and brambles!)

Sailing Report

Sunday morning saw the first of the Admirals Chase series and this race was also sailed for the Steve Morris memorial trophy. Light winds and perhaps the holiday season restricted the entry to thirteen boats. Alex Timms (Solo) showed his light wind skills to take first place from Damian Boreham & Alice Gardner (Firefly) in 2nd with Chris Meredith 3rd – also in a Solo. In the afternoon the first two races in the Summer Points series got underway in tricky conditions for the race team and sailors. Nevertheless, enthusiasm prevailed and nineteen boats (including 6 Flying Fifteens, one of which was sailed by Sarah and Jackie – our new all female crew / helm combo) enjoyed the sun and shifty winds for a pleasant afternoon on the lake.

A lovely breeze on Wednesday morning died to a very pretty but disappointing flat calm in the evening. A tantalising zephyr popped up at 18:30 to tempt a few out but the race had to be shortened at one of the marks.

Ladies Day 4 – Saturday 15th July

Training from 10.45, rigged but not changed. Race briefing 13:30, followed by three short races, back to back with first start at 14:00… then TEA!! We’ll sail the races as a tribute to Dot Macklin, founder member and demon sailor.
