New Members Day – 6th May

Everybody who has joined the club since May last year is warmly invited to join us for our New Members Day, on Saturday 6th May. If you are a family member the invitation is for your whole family, and if you are a junior member the invitation is for your parents as well.

The day will start at 11:30, and will include a free buffet lunch. It is an opportunity for you to find out more about the club, ask any questions you still may have, and to meet the committee and the fleet captains.

After lunch there will be the opportunity to take a tour of the lake in the committee boat (buoyancy aids required). There may also be opportunity for an introduction to the power boats and the club sailing dinghies.

The day is free but we’d like you to register so we have an idea of numbers for catering. Register now.

If you have any questions please contact Cathy Bartram.

Sailing Report – Helen Martin, Vice Commodore

On Sunday 42 boats mustered on the start line for the John Jarrett Trophy race. In a light and fluky wind, the front few boats got away and avoided the pile up at mark 0 as the wind died. Everyone made it round one lap before RO Bill Chard and team decided to abandon, much to everyone’s relief.

The honours went to Ian Cadwallader and Josh Preater in a Flying Fifteen. Lack of consistent breeze resulted in fewer starters for the afternoon Commodore’s Cup “drift” pursuit race. At the finish the first 4 boats were very close with Chris Goldhawk in a Solo just ahead of Colin Evans in his Finn for 1st and 2nd. Full results.

Those that sailed on Saturday had a great day, The Lake and Cakers were treated to lovely conditions. The first sail of the year for many – lots of fun and lovely to see some newcomers and a mix of boats, including 2 Flying Fifteens.

This weekend is the Laser Masters Inlands – we anticipate a big turnout of visitors and locals alike (Chew Lasers have been observed at last minute practice). Do come and watch – be prepared, you are likely to be directed to Woodford Lodge for parking.
