Dear all Parents, Guardians and Younger Members of CVLSC.

As promised I am now getting to the stage of getting more information out to you about Chew Crew for 2017.

We hope to have a Registration Forms set up for “Chew Crew” on the website soon, where you can register for this years activities.
Cost of Chew Crew membership is £50.00

An email will be sent out to give you a link soon. We also hope that we can take payment also via the website so this makes the whole system much easier to administer.

We are going to have a “Open Morning” on Sunday 30th April where we will be available to have discussions about the new Chew Crew and which groups children want to be in and also keeping a look at how many people are going to be in which group. There will be paper forms, which parents can complete if there have been issues with the online system, or some people may just like doing it the old way.
It would also be great to meet people who may wish to get involved with Chew Crew and there will be more information available on the day.

We are always looking for more Dinghy Instructors and Assistant Instructors to help out with Chew Crew.

If you are 15+ we really want to get more Assistant Instructors to help out as we have found in the past this really inspires younger members of Chew Crew. If anyone would like to do his or her Assistant Instructor training please contact Rich Hole on training@chewvalleysailing.org.uk
This is also a great way to gain your service part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award if you are participating in it!!
If you sign up and complete the appropriate paperwork and achieve the competency required, you will also be put forward to gain your Powerboat Level 2 Certificate. (Now there is an incentive!)

RYA Stage 1 & 2

The RYA Stage 1 & 2 course will start from Sunday May 7th and this will be a 5-6 week course depending on weather and competence of the people on the course.

We will be running another RYA Stage 1 & 2 Course end of June, so don’t worry if you don’t get on the first one! You can also register with Rich Hole on the Training link of the website if you wish your children to complete any other RYA courses during the summer.

I am still working on the programmes for the year but this is going to be the main content.

Beginner Sailing RYA Stage 1&2

Beginner Sailing RYA Stage 1&2 cost of £90 per child. Max 6 participants (Sunday Mornings)

This is based on newcomers coming to the sport of sailing with little or no experience of being on a sailing dinghy. Participants must be aged 8 years old and above. The course will run on Sunday mornings for 5-6 weeks.

A RYA Dinghy Instructor following the course syllabus will run this course. There will be need of Parent helpers.

Please note if the weather is bad there will be on shore based activities and theory sessions

Intermediate Skills and Fun Skills Sailing

Intermediate Skills and Fun Skills Sailing. Max 12 per group.
(Sunday mornings if more people then the groups will be split up in to A & B weeks)

This group is for people who have had some sailing experience and are gaining confidence on the water. They should be able to sail a sailing dinghy in light weather conditions and if necessary will be pared up with another more experienced sailor.
There will be a programme of activities on and off the water to gain confidence and learn skills in a fun environment. We are keeping numbers lower as it is difficult for Instructors and helpers to keep the group together if more.
The group will have the options of trying different boats such as Terra, Topper, Feva or Visions, which gives participants the chance of trying big boat sailing.

I hope to get other members of the Clubs Fleet Captains to give some information to this group and maybe even some taster sessions.
This group will be mainly run with a Dinghy Instructor or Assistant instructor and Parent helpers.

Please note if the weather is bad there will be on shore based activities and theory sessions instead of being on the water

Learn to Race

Learn to Race. Max 12 per group (Sunday afternoons)
This group is for people who are capable of sailing single handed and able to sail a triangular course.
They should have an ability to sail in stronger winds and right a boat if capsized.
There will be training on the rules of racing and some onshore theory.
Helpers and Dinghy Instructors will instruct this group.

Race Squad

Race Squad (by invitation only) Monthly Sundays with Nick Edmonds & Julian Cooke. Please see Club Diary for information.
More Information to follow.
PLEASE NOTE! There is a separate costing for this group!

I hope that the above explains what we are hoping to cover this summer and if you have any questions or worries please feel free to contact me at kewmichael@aol.com

Looking forward to seeing you on the 30th April!
