Happy Christmas to all our members!
Christmas Sailing
Turnouts over Christmas period are traditionally extremely low and reflecting demand there are some changes to the rostered duty days. On sailing days when no duty team is rostered you can only sail as part of a group if you sort out your own safety cover in accordance with the buddy sailing policy. Here’s a summary.:
Christmas Eve Weds 24-Dec-25 – there is NO duty team rostered. Buddy sailing only
Boxing Day – Friday 26-Dec-25 11am Tap Trophy
Sailing resumes with the Tap Trophy all in handicap race starting from 11am on Boxing Day – with a nice wind currently forecast it is an ideal opportunity to get some fresh air and have a break from those mince pies
Saturday 27-Dec-25– there is NO duty team rostered. Buddy sailing only
Sunday 28-Dec-25 – there is NO duty team rostered. Buddy sailing only
Wednesday 31-Dec-25 – there is NO duty team rostered. Buddy sailing only
1st January New Years Day Racing – RO needed!
Sailing continues on New years day with the resolution trophy. However, in order for the race to go ahead we need a race officer! if you are able to help, please let me our Duties Sec know here or volunteer via Dutyman. This will count as one of your duties.
Rostered duties continue as normal from new years day

There is a RYA First Aid Course scheduled on Saturday 28-Feb-26 at the Club, still only £30.

Youth programme update* from the youth Team
It’s great to see so many young sailors braving the December winds in club racing! Off the water, the organising team are busy sorting out next year’s programme and we have the following updates for you:
- 17/18-Jan-26: seamanship skills course, suitable for both adults and young people who hold RYA level 3/stage 4 and are sailing confidently in moderate conditions, in single and double handers. https://webcollect.org.uk/cvlsc/event/2026-rya-course-seamanship-skills
- The 2026 Youth programme should be open for booking in February. It’s likely to be similar to this year, with an Assistsnt Instructor course in spring and Chew Crew and stage 1 and 2 courses running between the Easter and Summer holidays. Please look out for further information in January & February newsletters. If you want to be added to the Youth sailing WhatsApp group email or would like to help out with next year’s programme, please email chewcrew@chewvalleysailing.org.uk
Christmas Carols
A large group (pictured above) gathered for the service and carols on Denny Island last week, with many then also enjoying a delicious Christmas brunch in the clubhouse. Thanks to Jeff Stratford, the police group and Brian Brooks organising the day
With best wishes for Christmas and the new year.
