Training for Members
Chew Valley Lake Sailing Club is recognized as a Training Centre by the Royal Yachting Association, the governing body for all types of sailing in the U.K. We have a dedicated team of RYA qualified Instructors and Senior Instructors which enables us to offer to our members training for the following activities:
Young Sailors - Stage 1; Stage2; Stage 3; Stage4; Advanced.
Adult Courses – Start Sailing, Level 1; Basic Skills, Level 2; Advanced: Seamanship Skills; Sailing with Spinnakers; Performance Sailing.
Powerboat courses – Introduction to Powerboating Level 1;
National Powerboat Certificate Level 2; Advanced: Safetyboat.
Shorebased courses - Day Skipper/Watch Leader and Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster theory courses.
In-house Race Officer training and fleet organised Race training.
Training for the dinghy courses is usually held during the period April/May/June each year - the actual dates being advised in the Club calendar and on the website. Powerboat courses and Shorebased courses run according to demand and it is the wish of the General Committee that all members who opt to carry out Club Duties as Rescue Boat helms be trained to Powerboat Level 2 standard.
NB: CVLSC is a private members’ club and therefore the courses, heavily subsidised by volunteers, are only offered to Club members. Your options, if not a member, are to apply to join the Club - refer to membership page – or contact commercial centres in Bristol or the South coast.
Thank you for your interest.
