Junior Sundays
For all sailors from the age of 8. Junior Sundays run from 10.00 – 13:00 and covers 2 areas:
'Junior Sailors'– gain skills, experience and have fun on the water. Basic to intermediate sail training but also including fun activities on the water (cruise round the lake; picnics; games). Our approach is less-formal, so you don’t need to commit to the whole programme, and you can join in at any time. All abilities welcome from the age of 8 upwards. The main club boats used are the club Optibats and Toppers, but the Laser 200, the Vision and the club Fevas may also be used occasionally (with a Coach on board!). Sailors can also use their own boat – anything that floats provided it has sails and is seaworthy.
'Junior Challenge'– Topper race training and race series. This provides both an introduction to dinghy racing and also a competitive race series. 2 series will be run through the year: a Spring series and a Summer series. Each series will involve a number of training days followed by a race series run over consecutive weekends. There will be a winner from each series, and the overall Chew Junior Champion will be determined from the combined results. Races will either take place on a dedicated small course, or if conditions are appropriate, on the club race-course. A Coach will escort the fleet around the course giving help and advice throughout.
Switching between the groups can be done at any time, and you don’t need to sign-up for a set programme. However, you do need to book in advance - see Booking Information. There is a one-off fee of £35 which covers all Junior Sundays. You can join at any time during the year and if we are oversubscribed for a session, we operate a reserve list.
